Compulsory purchase order
To deliver the reinforcement and refurbishment project within the required timescales, we need to acquire all land and land rights necessary to carry out the works.
To support the acquisition of the required land and rights, we made the National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (Pentir to Trawsfynydd Reinforcement and Refurbishment Project) Compulsory Purchase Order 2026 (“the CPO”) on 15th October 2026 to enable the delivery and operation of the Pentir to Trawsfynydd project (“the Project”).
National Grid Electricity Transmission plc (“NGET”) has continued to engage with all known affected landowners and, where relevant, the occupiers, to discuss the required rights and proposals to deliver the Project. NGET’s preference will and has always been to secure land and new rights by voluntary agreement. However, whilst good progress has been made, NGET has not been able to secure all of the land and rights it requires to deliver the Project. Accordingly, it has been necessary for NGET to make the CPO.
We have therefore only included the land where we need rights for the Project in the CPO. If negotiations with landowners to agree Heads of Terms are on-going, or where discussions with solicitors to complete the voluntary legal agreements have not completed, NGET will continue to negotiate in a collaborative manner to conclude voluntary agreements. Where NGET has a completed agreement in place, it does not expect to need to rely on the CPO. This is always NGET’s preference rather than relying on powers of compulsion.
A copy of the notice confirming the making of the CPO has been served on all those with an interest in the land who have been included in the CPO. A copy of the notice can be found here. It has also been published in local newspaper the Daily Post circulating within the vicinity of the land. Site notices have also been erected at intervals in or near the land included in the CPO.
A copy of the confirmed CPO and the maps that show the land included in the CPO can be found on this website and are available for public inspection at the following locations:

If you do not wish to object you do not need to take any further action and we will provide updates as the CPO progresses.
Depending on the number and nature of objections received, the Secretary of State may decide to hold an inquiry at which an Inspector will hear evidence from NGET and any objectors before making a recommendation to the Secretary of State as to whether the CPO should be confirmed.
