What is the difference between National Grid Electricity Transmission and Distribution?

National Grid Electricity Distribution is the regional electricity distribution division of National Grid. We provide the power and manage the electricity distribution network for customers in the Midlands, South West and Wales. Formerly known as "Western Power Distribution"

National Grid Electricity Transmission own, maintain and develop the high voltage electricity transmission network in England and Wales. We carry power safely from where it’s made to where it can be distributed to homes and businesses via lower voltage regional networks.

Who are the Electricity System Operator? How are they separate from National Grid?

We move electricity round Great Britain’s system to keep homes and businesses supplied with the energy they need 24/7, 365 days a year. We don’t generate or sell electricity; we ensure essential electricity supply meets demand around the country.
