Construction

We're future proofing the UK's electricity supply.

Yorkshire GREEN is a £400 million project being delivered by National Grid to upgrade the UK’s electricity network. It is one of 17 projects being delivered as part of ‘The Great Grid Upgrade’

Yorkshire GREEN will increase the capacity of our electricity network so energy can get to where it needs to be - into our homes and businesses.

What's happening now?

We’re carrying out construction work to deliver Yorkshire GREEN. We are installing and upgrading cables and pylons, as well as building two new substations.

Most of the new infrastructure will be up and running in 2027. All work is expected to be finished by the end of 2028.

To find out more about what's happening, visit this section of our website: work on the ground.

What is Yorkshire GREEN?

As part of Yorkshire GREEN, we are:

  • building two new substations - one at Overton and one at Monk Fryston - and adding some new equipment at Osbaldwick Substation

  • installing, upgrading and strengthening 38km of overhead lines

  • constructing about 1km of new underground cables

  • installing 33 new pylons (as well as removing older pylons that will no longer be needed).

To find out more about where construction is taking place, take a look at our interactive map.

Thank you
