What we said we'd do
As the electricity transmission owner in England and Wales, we're responsible for the safe and reliable operation of an extensive network of assets. Our role is to protect the public and those who work on our network, from the inherent dangers associated with providing a high voltage electricity transmission supply.
Our outputs will make sure that we protect the public from harm. We will maintain our current high levels of reliability so that electricity is available whenever and wherever current and future consumers want it. In our T2 Business Plan submission we committed to:
- delivering world-class levels of safety and maintain our service reliability of 99.9999 per cent.
- investing to renew and modernise 6 to 19 per cent of our different network asset types to maintain reliability for future generations.
- delivering three major electricity cable projects in London, Sheffield and North Wales to maintain security of supply.
What we’ve done and what we’re going to do
Safety
Safety remains our highest priority. We are committed to ensuring that everyone who works for or with us returns home safely every day. As we continue to invest in the electricity network and deliver one of the largest programmes of infrastructure work in our history, we remain focused on maintaining the highest standards of safety across all our operations. During 2025/26, we saw an increase in lost time injuries to slightly above our target.
To ensure we maintain our focus on Safety, throughout the year, we continued to strengthen our approach to safety by enhancing incident learning, improving oversight and governance, and embedding Human and Organisational Performance principles across the business. We also increased our focus on working closely with our contractors and supply chain partners to ensure consistent standards and a strong shared commitment to safe working. This focus will continue into RIIO-T3.
Reliability
We are committed to delivering a reliable network and in FY26, we recorded a single incentivised Energy Not Supplied (ENS) event during the year. This occurred at Heysham substation in April 2025, resulting in 28.9MWh of electricity not supplied, significantly below the incentive neutral point of 147MWh. As a result, network reliability remained high at 99.99999% in FY26 contributing towards world-class network reliability of 99.99995% across the RIIO-T2 period.
