For decades, the majority (85%) of Britain’s homes and businesses have relied on methane, or ‘natural’, gas for heating systems and industrial processes. Methane is also used to generate around 40% of electricity. But with a national commitment of achieving net zero by 2050, this is going to have to change as heat accounts for 37% of UK carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
 

National Grid CEO John Pettigrew has joined over 200 business leaders in a call to the Prime Minister to deliver a Covid-19 recovery plan that builds back a more inclusive, stronger and more resilient UK economy.

Published today, the open letter offers support to the Government in tackling the present health crisis and urges Prime Minister Boris Johnson to provide clear vision for recovery efforts that align with the UK's wider social, environmental and climate goals.

The refurbished laptops, which are worth over £200,000, are being distributed in partnership with five charities with the aim of supporting people through the ongoing covid-19 lockdown. Eight hundred laptops are being distributed to primary and secondary schools to support home-learning for their pupils with the remainder going to youth charity The Prince’s Trust. 

The coronavirus pandemic has sent the world into a state of tension and anxiety like no other, taking its toll on each of us. Given the necessary measures in place to tackle the virus, it’s no wonder that all of us have felt the impact on our mental health. Many have feared for loved ones, felt socially isolated or experienced heightened anxiety as we face so much uncertainty.
