The last of our Transmission Network Control Centre (TNCC) teams, who’ve been living on site to keep the country’s power going during the pandemic, has returned home.

The first steps of a three-year project to construct an important new subsea electricity cable, known as Viking Link, have been taken. This, the latest of our interconnector projects, will stretch 765km to link Bicker Fen in Lincolnshire with Revsing in Denmark, connecting the energy systems of the two countries.
The construction phase of the Viking Link Interconnector project, a high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) link between the UK and Denmark, has commenced with Siemens Energy Ltd mobilizing to site to start the construction of the first stage of works, a 2.4km long access road for the Bicker Fen converter station site.
The route of our Hinkley Connection Project passes through landscape that has been occupied and shaped by humans for over 40,000 years. Each period has left its own traces, from incredibly rare prehistoric remains, through to artefacts from the Roman, Saxon and medieval periods.
Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation, one of our US operating companies, has successfully issued a green bond that’s the first of its kind across our US business.
Lorna McAtear is in charge of the cars and vans our teams need to do their jobs, whether they’re heading out to check a city substation or repairing cabling in a remote, rural area. As part of our corporate commitment to reaching net zero by 2050, she’s working to ensure that all our vehicles are fuelled by cleaner fuel sources than petrol and diesel by 2030.
As Pride month comes to an end, we commemorate the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall Riots and start of the Gay Liberation Movement. This month, and always, we remember that the progress the LGBTQ+ community has made so far would not have been possible without the courage and leadership of the Black, Brown and African American LGBTQ+ trailblazers. Those who sparked the Gay Liberations Movement include: Marsha P.
North Sea Link, a joint venture project between National Grid and Norwegian system operator Statnett, is a subsea electricity cable that will connect the UK and Norwegian electricity grids.
Before being able to lay the cable in Norway, the team first had to tackle manoeuvring the cable through a beautiful lake, which cannot be accessed by the size of the vessel, usually required for cable laying.
Construction of the world’s longest subsea power cable has passed its halfway point, achieving a major engineering feat on the way. The super-sized cable, known as an interconnector, will span 720km on completion, linking the electricity grids of the UK and Norway.
