When a major foodstuff manufacturer in London needed to upgrade their vital gas supply, the Service Delivery team at National Grid Metering stepped up to design, build and commission a solution whilst keeping the site operational.
National Grid Metering received an urgent request from a local business after a devastating fire in their factory, had stopped work. The factory had been assisting the NHS in the fight against COVID-19; however, the fire left damage on a large section of the factory, including the gas pipework and meter installation, electrics and roof.
Here at National Grid Metering we have been working hard with our Partners throughout this period of uncertainty. Ensuring safety related work is completed within the emposed restrictions and keeping the gas flowing for urgent off gas situations for both residential properties and commercial businesses.
In this time of national uncertainty, it is vital to keep the lights on and gas flowing. National Grid Metering (NGM) continues to maintain and manage nine million gas assets across the UK, ensuring they remain safe, reliable and efficient.
During the COVID-19 pandemic there is an increase in spaces being converted into facilities to serve new purpose during the outbreak. These include larger emergency field hospitals such as London’s ExCel Centre and Birmingham’s NEC, both opening their doors to help support coronavirus patients needing intensive care treatment.
The partnership started in 2019 with National Grid Metering, supported by their local Waitrose, hosting a successful Christmas lunch in their Solihull office. It was attended by elderly residents of Solihull who clearly enjoyed the outing and the opportunity to share stories and partake in Christmas Carols. The relationship has grown from strength to strength since.
On World Youth Skills Day we asked our Gridterns to give us the inside track on interning with National Grid, including advice on how to apply for an internship and the benefits they’ve gained during their time working with our teams in New York.
