Today’s decision by Ofgem is a welcome and hugely significant development. Getting the green light for reform of the connections process is a culmination of efforts across industry, driven by NESO, Ofgem, government and our teams at National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET).

We’ve long been advocating for reform, from stronger measures to tackle the oversubscribed connections pipeline, to a fundamentally new process which prioritises the energy projects that are most ready, and most needed to meet the country’s clean power targets.

The Great Grid Upgrade

The Great Grid Upgrade is the largest overhaul of the UK electricity grid in generations. It will enable us to carry clean, secure energy from where it is generated to where it is needed, boosting energy security and helping the nation to become more self sufficient. The initiative consists of 17 major infrastructure projects across England and Wales to connect more clean, affordable energy to the network.

The temporary closures of the public rights of way, DEVI36 and DEVI63, have been agreed with Wiltshire Council.

With the installation of the new underground cables taking place across our site, temporarily closing these public rights of way is necessary for the safety of our teams and members of the public at this key stage in construction for the North Wessex Downs VIP project.

Wesley Playing Fields plays a vital role in the North Acton community as it is one of few open green spaces in an otherwise industrialised neighbourhood. Over 10 full bags of litter were collected and removed by the team, improving the area for residents and visitors alike.

During the activity, the local park ranger expressed appreciation for volunteers carrying out the litter pick activity as a way to maintain local green spaces throughout the borough. National Grid graduate Ayo, who volunteered for the activity, commented:
