Bramford to Twinstead project

Traffic management measures on A134 Colchester Road near Assington between 15 and 18 November

Since our development consent order for the Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement was granted, we have been carrying out preparatory works ahead of main construction along the project route. As part of this, we have agreed a temporary reduction in the speed limit (from 40 mph to 30 mph) along part of the A134 Colchester Road near Assington with Suffolk County Council.

The purpose of this speed reduction is to ensure safety of construction traffic entering or leaving our main construction compound, along with other road users. Connected with this, we need to install new signage and road markings at this location.

To ensure the safety of our workforce and the public while this work is carried out, traffic management measures are expected to be in place from Saturday 15 to Tuesday 18 November 2025 (excluding Sunday 16 November) between the hours of  09:30 to 15:00. The work will be carried out by Balfour Beatty, on behalf of National Grid.

During this period, temporary two-way traffic lights will be in place to ensure the safety of our team. These will only be in operation during working hours and will be removed from the carriageway overnight. To minimise disruption, the signals will be manually controlled at all times to manage the flow of traffic. On approach, traffic management warning signs will be displayed, and the work area will be clearly marked with cones and barriers.

We understand that our work may cause some disruption to your journey, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Our teams will work to complete these activities as efficiently and safely as possible. If there are any changes to our timetable, this webpage will be updated.
