Our Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Buddug is continuing to make great progress since the start of tunnelling operations in April and has now completed over a third of the tunnel underneath the Dwyryd Estuary between Minffordd towards Llandecwyn, where it is due to arrive in 2026.

There will be changes to normal working practices at Eryri VIP over the festive period between Wednesday 24 December and Monday 5 January 2026 and we’ve provided an update below on arrangements across the project during this time.

Working arrangements at Garth

Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2), one of the UK’s most significant energy infrastructure projects, is delivering real economic benefits to local communities in Yorkshire. Working alongside contractor partner BAM, EGL2 has awarded more than £8.9 million in contracts to businesses near the Wren Hall Converter Station site in Drax, North Yorkshire.

To ensure the safety of our workforce and the public while this work is carried out, we will need to pause traffic for 15 minutes, at some point between the hours of 08:00 to 17:30 on 15 December. The work will be carried out by Balfour Beatty, on behalf of National Grid. Advance warning signs will be displayed, and the work area will be clearly marked with cones and barriers.

National Grid has signed two contracts for Sea Link, a proposed 140km subsea electricity connection set to deliver cleaner, more reliable power between Kent and Suffolk. Following a robust and competitive procurement process, Siemens Energy has been appointed to build the project’s converter stations, while Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd. will supply the high-voltage cable that makes the connection possible.

Yn y pumed rhifyn hwn o gylchlythyr y prosiect, rydyn ni’n rhoi'r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf am y gwaith adeiladu sydd wedi cael ei wneud ar y prosiect dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, gan gynnwys lansio ein Peiriant Twnelu, Buddug. Rydyn ni hefyd yn amlinellu ein gwaith ymgysylltu parhaus â rhanddeiliaid lleol a'r gymuned ehangach.

Gobeithiwn y byddwch chi'n mwynhau darllen hwn a dysgu mwy am ein gwaith hyd yma ar brosiect Darpariaeth Effaith Weledol Eryri.

In the fifth edition of our project newsletter, we provide a progress update on the construction work that has been carried out on the project over the past year, including the launch of our Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), Buddug. We also outline our continued engagement with local stakeholders and the wider community.

We do hope you enjoy reading this and finding out more about our work to date on the Eryri VIP project.
