Working arrangements during Christmas 2025
As 2025 draws to a close we look back on a milestone year for the Eryri VIP project.
Our Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Buddug is continuing to make great progress since the start of tunnelling operations in April and has now completed over a third of the tunnel underneath the Dwyryd Estuary between Minffordd towards Llandecwyn, where it is due to arrive in 2026.
There will be changes to normal working practices at Eryri VIP over the festive period between Wednesday 24 December and Monday 5 January 2026 and we’ve provided an update below on arrangements across the project during this time.
Working arrangements at Garth
While tunnelling operations will be paused between Wednesday 24 December and Monday 5 January, a small skeleton team will continue to operate at the main Eryri VIP site during this period to undertake minor surface works and to monitor our TBM Buddug and the tunnel shaft.
Please note that our temporary traffic lights on Back Lane will be removed during this time, however the speed indicator devices will be kept in place to continue reminding all drivers to adhere to the 20mph limit.
Working arrangements at Llandecwyn
Excavation works for the reception shaft near Llandecwyn will be paused on Wednesday 24 December and will resume on Monday 5 January. Members of Hochtief UK’s construction and security team will continue to monitor the site throughout the festive period and will be undertaking necessary tasks such as pumping water from the shaft.
Accommodation at Blaen Cefn
Hochtief UK’s accommodation facility at Blaen Cefn will remain open during the Christmas and New Year period for our small skeleton team who will be working during this time. The accommodation will continue to be monitored by 24-hour security.
Minimising disruption
We will continue to minimise any disturbance caused to our neighbours and would like to reiterate our sincere thanks to the local community for their ongoing patience and cooperation.
