Security and risks

A reliable and consistent energy supply is crucial for the smooth operation of hospitals, transport networks, schools, homes and more.

The increasingly complex landscape of physical and cyber threats poses serious risks to our power systems. At National Grid, we take the security of our networks very seriously; identifying, protecting against, detecting, responding to, and recovering from potential threats is of paramount importance. We invest significant resources and make substantial investments in maintaining the security of our organisation.

As a responsible business, we recognize the importance of prioritising cyber security and data protection and have implemented cyber security solutions to protect our digital systems. We conduct training and planning activities to increase awareness of cybersecurity risks amongst our staff and to improve our protection and response capabilities.

We also recognise the risks associated with physical security and implement appropriate measures for sites and assets to make them less vulnerable to unauthorised access. We train our employees to recognise and respond to suspicious behaviour, require that everyone wear their identification badge while on site and maintain specific policies for contractors and visitors to ensure site security.
