Powering local growth: National Grid invites local businesses to explore Pentir to Trawsfynydd project supply chain opportunities
Date: Tuesday 6th October, 08:30 to 12:30
Venue: Celtic Royal Hotel & Spa, Caernarfon, Gwynedd LL55 1AY
Businesses from across North Wales are being invited to learn more about potential supply chain opportunities linked to National Grid's Pentir to Trawsfynydd reinforcement project at a forthcoming Meet the Buyer event.
Delivered in partnership with Business Wales, the event will provide local businesses with information on supply chain opportunities, supplier requirements and procurement processes, as well as the opportunity to meet National Grid and its Great Grid Partnership delivery partners including Murphy, Morgan Sindall and M Group. Attendees will hear directly from project partners about potential work programmes and how local businesses can position themselves for future opportunities linked to the Pentir to Trawsfynydd project.
The project will reinforce and refurbish parts of the existing high-voltage electricity network between Pentir and Trawsfynydd, helping to deliver increasing volumes of clean energy across Wales.
Demand for electricity is set to increase significantly as the way we power our homes, businesses, industry and transport changes. Alongside the growth in clean energy generation, this will require continued investment in the electricity network. Delivering this infrastructure will require a wide range of skills, services and expertise, creating opportunities for businesses across North Wales.
National Grid has established long-term supply chain partnerships to support delivery of major electricity network upgrades. In 2025, National Grid’s supply chain spending in Wales was £116.2m. This investment is helping suppliers grow capability, create job opportunities and support the delivery of new and upgraded energy infrastructure. National Grid is committed to ensuring businesses across Wales are well placed to explore and compete for opportunities arising from its investment programme.
John Lamb, Project Director at National Grid, said: “Projects such as Pentir to Trawsfynydd represent an important investment in Wales' infrastructure and have the potential to support opportunities for businesses across North Wales.
“We want local companies to understand how they can get involved, build relationships with our delivery partners and learn more about the goods, services and expertise that may be needed to support the project.
“By working with businesses in Wales and across the UK, we can help strengthen the skills, capability and capacity of the domestic supply chain needed to deliver nationally important infrastructure projects.”
Kelly Thomas, Supply Chain Engagement Manager at Business Wales, added: “This event will help businesses from across North Wales better understand the Pentir to Trawsfynydd project, connect with organisations involved in its delivery and learn more about how businesses can position themselves for future work.
“We are pleased to be working with National Grid to bring businesses and project partners together and would encourage companies to attend and get involved.”
The event is aimed at businesses of all sizes, including those operating in sectors such as construction, landscaping, drainage, traffic management, surfacing, environmental services, haulage, site security, catering, accommodation and professional services, as well as companies interested in supporting major infrastructure projects in North Wales.
The Pentir to Trawsfynydd project forms part of The Great Grid Upgrade, the largest overhaul of the electricity network in generations.
The event is free to attend and advance registration is required. Businesses can register via the Business Wales Event Finder.
