Next step for Eastern Green Link 4 as preferred cable bidder announced
- Prysmian selected as preferred bidder to supply the 646km high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable system for Eastern Green Link 4
National Grid Electricity Transmission and SP Energy Networks have selected Prysmian as preferred bidder for the high-voltage direct current (HVDC) cable system for the Eastern Green Link 4 (EGL4) project.
The proposed 2GW link between Fife, Scotland to West Norfolk, England will be delivered as a joint venture between the two transmission owners. The 646km route of subsea and underground cables will carry renewable energy between Scotland and England, enough to power two million homes, supporting energy security and the transition to cleaner and more affordable power.
The preferred bidder follows a competitive procurement process and represents an important step ahead of full contract award. Planning applications are expected in Scotland in late 2025 and in England during 2026, and this decision does not pre-empt or prejudice the outcome of those processes.
If approved, construction is currently expected to start in 2029, with the link operational in 2033.
