United Veteran Beacon House Honors National Grid’s Commander Philip Echevarrio at Annual Veterans Salute Gala

The United Veteran Beacon House paid tribute to National Grid’s Commander Philip Echevarrio at their annual Veterans Salute Gala, honoring his extraordinary service to both his country and community. This gathering brings together veteran supporters to recognize those who have dedicated their lives to serving others, and this year National Grid proudly celebrated one of their own.

United Veteran Beacon House, which has supported nearly 30,000 veterans since 1994, offers critical resources including shelter, food, and recovery services for those battling homelessness, PTSD, traumatic brain injuries, and other health challenges. The organization’s mission is to guide veterans toward a life of stability, dignity, and independence.

Commander Echevarrio, a decorated U.S. Navy veteran and graduate of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, has served in the Naval Reserves for over 18 years, including missions in Iraq after 9/11. He has received numerous honors, such as the Navy Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal (twice), for his dedicated service. Currently, Echevarrio is the Manager of Gas Field Operations for National Grid, where he has worked for 37 years, contributing both to his team and his community.

In his role at National Grid, Commander Echevarrio leads volunteer efforts, including Earth Day initiatives and the company’s Week of Service. For the second consecutive year, over 50 volunteers landscaped a United Veteran Beacon House home in Bay Shore, a residence for six veterans, highlighting National Grid’s ongoing support for the organization. Echevarrio is also an active member of the company’s Veterans Employee Resource Group (VERG), where he mentors others and promotes a culture of service.

“Long Island has one of the largest populations of Veterans of any state in the United States. I am proud to recognize and assist them through United Veteran Beacon House, the Long Island Honor Flight team, and our National Grid VERG team.”

Echevarrio was joined at the gala by his wife, Denise, and National Grid colleagues, who came to express their admiration and gratitude for his service and accomplishments. Last year, National Grid employee Lissette Lugo was honored at the same event, reflecting the company’s deep commitment to supporting veterans within and beyond its workforce.

“It was a special night to celebrate Phil’s remarkable achievements,” said Brian Sapp, Director of External Affairs, National Grid. “His commitment to serving others—whether in uniform or out—continues to inspire us all.”
