Ribbon Cutting in Brownsville for New Computer Lab

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – National Grid joined NYC First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, alongside Assemblywoman Latrice Walker, Brooklyn Deputy Borough President Kim Council, NYC Department of Youth and Community Development Commissioner Keith Howard, Medgar Evers College President Dr. Patricia Ramsey, members of the African American Clergy and Elected Officials (AACEO), and other leaders and members of the Brownsville community to celebrate the ribbon cutting of a new computer lab located in the Van Dyke Community Center.

Building upon an existing sponsorship with non-profit organization, Ikohdi, Inc.’s, NYC Computer Lab Initiative, this computer lab is the second of two technology spaces supported by National Grid’s grant program. The grant, which focuses on workforce development, will help close the digital divide by providing access to technology, and classes in computer literacy and STEM programming.

“At National Grid, neighborhood development and community engagement is a top priority,” said Carla Hunter Ramsey Director of External Affairs and Community Engagement, National Grid.  “Digital skills will be needed as we transition to a cleaner energy future – for data science, big data analytics, and for creative problem solving. Computer labs play a crucial role in bridging the digital divide, improving access opportunities within local communities, and positively affecting people’s wellbeing. Sponsoring projects like this is one of the many ways National Grid continually demonstrates our commitment to our customers and the communities we serve.”
