$24,000 to Buffalo Green Fund Inc

Project C Benefitting Buffalo Green Fund's Re-Tree Effort

National Grid presented a check in the amount of $24,000 to Buffalo Green Fund Inc. which, through its Re-Tree WNY program, has replanted more than 30,000 trees that were damaged or destroyed during a major snowstorm on Oct. 12-13, 2006.

The donation was made possible by way of a grant through Project C, National Grid’s community commitment to support people and communities across New York with sustainability programs, neighborhood development projects, grants and more.

“National Grid is dedicated to partnering with our communities to preserve our green space,” said National Grid Regional Director Ken Kujawa. “As part of our Project C initiative we can create positive impacts in our communities, and working with Buffalo Green Fund and supporting their ReTree WNY program is one way we can accomplish that.”

“It is my pleasure to accept this very generous donation from National Grid to help us with our continuing efforts to increase the tree canopy of our beloved City of Buffalo & Western New York. We promise to procure as many trees as possible for our volunteers to plant in the coming months and years,” said Paul D. Maurer, Chairman of Re-Tree and board member of the Buffalo Green Fund.

Kujawa added that today’s donation is continuation of the company’s support of parks and green space as earlier this year, the company provided $105,000 to Buffalo Parks Conservancy through its Adopt-A-Park program. He also recalled the October, 2006 storm as a major undertaking for National Grid, which required 3,700 workers who replaced of 400 broken utility poles and used 1.5 million feet of wire to make repairs and restore electricity service to more than 250,000 customers.
