National Grid Volunteers Decorate Ronald McDonald House for the Holidays

In keeping with a decade-long tradition, dozens of National Grid employees placed a large Christmas tree and decorated the exterior of the Ronald McDonald House in Albany today, bringing newly purchased energy efficient holiday lights donated by the energy company.

For over a decade, National Grid employees have volunteered their time to decorate the Ronald McDonald House, which provides a home away from home, free of charge, for families with children facing serious medical issues. In addition to the annual decorating, National Grid employees have also collected thousands of dollars in personal donations from their fellow employees to contribute to RMHC.

Retired National Grid Electric Operations Manager Mark Murray continued the tradition of cutting down and donating a tree from his own property for the project. Despite retiring, Murray wanted to continue providing a tree for the families’ enjoyment.

“For many years, our Electric Operations Team has been dedicated to bringing some holiday cheer to the families who are staying at the Ronald McDonald House during what is most likely one of the most difficult times in their lives,” said Brian Sano, National Grid Regional Director. “It’s one of our favorite activities of the year and we are happy to continue this tradition and kick off the holiday season.”

"National Grid's holiday decorating is a very special tradition here at the Ronald McDonald House. Every year, the lights and greenery bring a tremendous amount of joy to children and families who find themselves far from home and facing serious health challenges during the holidays. On behalf of all those families, we thank National Grid for their ongoing support and generosity," said Kimmy Venter, Interim Chief Executive Officer, RMHC of the Capital Region.

This year’s installation includes 1,000 feet of lights, with 3,000 LED bulbs that will cover the large tree on the balcony, three houses, and a large wreath around the organization’s sign. In addition, approximately 40 pine boughs cut from trees on Murray’s property will decorate the house.
