National Grid Grants Support Building an Accessible Workplace for Individuals with Disabilities
Over the last two years, National Grid has provided $100,000 in grants to Our Ability Inc., an Albany-based organization that works to build an accessible workplace for individuals with disabilities. The grant is part of National Grid’s Project C, an initiative to support workforce development, community investment, clean energy and sustainability.
Earlier today, Our Ability recognized National Grid and thanked the energy company for the grants, which support “Jobs Ability,” an artificial intelligence /skill assessment engine being used across North America by individuals with disabilities looking to connect. The portal assesses skills, builds training, and matches individuals to open positions. It allows them to engage directly with community organizations in their search for employment.
“At Our Ability, we are proud to work with those looking for employment as well as companies seeking a diverse workforce. National Grid is a wonderful example supporting inclusive hiring,” said John Robinson, Our Ability’s CEO.
National Grid’s Workforce Development Program is helping to build a better, more prepared workforce to enable the growth of the clean energy industry. To create equitable change for workers, National Grid helps enable sufficient training and hands-on experience. As clean energy grows to become one of the biggest industries for employment, National Grid is increasing these workforce development opportunities to train the new clean energy workforce and equip individuals with the skills they need to succeed.
“We are very pleased to work with Our Ability and to help promote building an accessible workplace for individuals with disabilities,” said Brian Sano, National Grid’s Regional Executive. “By focusing on increasing inclusiveness, we are both opening up new opportunities and expanding the workforce who can help National Grid build our Green Energy future.
