Investing in Workforce of the Future

National Grid provided $50,000 to Dream It Do It during the week-long Manufacturing Mayhem Day Camp held at Jamestown Community College. The company supports the continuation and growth of the Dream It Do It initiative across Western New York.

Dream It Do It Western New York (DIDIWNY) focuses on building an early talent pipeline of students interested in manufacturing careers.

The Manufacturing Mayhem Technology Camp is a week-long project-based experience that teaches steps within the manufacturing process. Held Aug. 12 to 16 at Jamestown Community College’s Manufacturing Technology Institute, students, at top, learn the importance of problem solving, communication and teamwork. They also meet with representatives from area manufacturers, who discuss various manufacturing career opportunities.

“National Grid and Dream It Do It realize the importance of investing in the education of Buffalo’s future workforce,” said National Grid Regional Director Ken Kujawa. “National Grid frequently invests in education and various STEM initiatives, because we know that doing so can result in building the workforce of the future.”

Students who participate in the Manufacturing Mayhem camp are enrolled in the Dream It Do It Advanced Manufacturing Program (DIDIAMP). DIDIAMP is designed to build strong connections to manufacturing career pathways, rewards students for their school-based work and engagement in hands-on programming through Dream It Do It and build relationships directly with manufacturer. DIDIAMP is designed to connect, engage, enrich, challenge and reward students on their way to manufacturers recognized belt achievement and certification and careers in manufacturing.

“National Grid has long been an important partner of Dream It Do It Western New York,” stated Todd Tranum, President of Dream It Do It Western New York. “This funding will help us to continue applied learning programming with middle and high school students in Chautauqua County and expand Dream It Do It into Erie and Niagara Counties.”
