Greenpoint Manufacturing and Design Center Receives National Grid $250,000 Cinderella Economic Development Grant

The Greenpoint Manufacturing Design Center (GMDC) recently broke ground on a first of its kind mixed-use development in Brooklyn’s Brownsville community. With the help of a $250,000 National Grid Cinderella Economic and Community Development grant, GMDC, in partnership with The Bridge, a nonprofit provider of mental health and human services, will develop a former industrial property into a brand-new energy-efficient mixed-use building. The 40,000 square foot facility will include affordable space for manufacturing businesses supporting up to 35 new jobs. GMDC’s project partners will own and manage 174 units of affordable housing, including 87 units of permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless New Yorkers, as well as 11,000 square feet of open green space.

This is the second GMDC industrial economic development project National Grid has supported. In 2020 GMDC received a National Grid Brownfield Redevelopment and Industrial Building Redevelopment Grant for its Ozone Park Industrial Center in Queens.
