Footpaths reopen following major project milestone

The DEVI36 and DEVI63 public rights of way, located north of Devizes, reopened in early September 2026 following the completion of a key stage of construction.

The project team temporarily closed the routes last year to ensure the safety of local residents, visitors and the workforce while complex construction activities were carried out in the area. This included work to install and bury the new high-voltage electricity cables underground. 

With this phase of work now complete and the land reinstated, both footpaths have reopened and all closure signage has been removed 

Amardeep Malhi, Project Manager for the North Wessex Downs VIP project, said:

"We would like to thank the local community for their patience and support throughout the temporary closure period while we’ve continued to make good progress on the project.

“Closing the footpaths was necessary to ensure public safety while we carried out an important stage of construction. 

“We recognise that the diversion arrangements may have caused inconvenience and appreciate the understanding shown while the work was undertaken safely.”
