Extended working hours at Llandecwyn project site

Our project team will be working extended hours to complete essential work at our Llandecwyn project site on Saturday 1 August and Thursday 6 August.

We will be working a 12-hour shift on Saturday 1 August and working continuously for 24 hours starting at approximately 5am on Thursday 6 August and ending in the early hours of Friday 7 August.

This activity is taking place with permission from the relevant authorities, including Eryri National Park Authority.

This work is to allow us to construct a concrete slab at the base of the reception shaft at our Llandecwyn site, which will allow us to lift the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) out of the ground once it finishes tunnelling across the estuary.

We need to work additional hours on Saturday 1 August 2026 to allow us to complete the rebar installation prior to constructing the concrete slab. This will ensure the structural stability of the base slab by adding steel reinforcement.

We need to work continuously for 24 hours from Thursday 6 August to Friday 7 August because the structural integrity of the concrete slab relies on the continuous pouring of ready mixed concrete. The full volume of concrete to be used cannot be safely poured during our usual working hours.

The ready mixed concrete will be delivered from Porthmadog in a concrete mixer vehicle. The work is expected to require approximately 63 separate concrete deliveries. No roads will be closed due to this activity.

Following delivery, the concrete will be pumped to the base of the shaft using a dedicated concrete pump positioned at the top of the shaft. Temporary noise reduction barriers will be erected close to the concrete pump to minimise the noise generated.

We sincerely apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disturbance that may be caused by this additional work, and we appreciate the local community’s patience and cooperation as we undertake this stage of the Eryri VIP project.

If you have any questions about any matter relating to the project, please contact our Community Relations Team on 0800 019 1898 between 9am and 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. If we are unable to answer your call, please leave a message and one of our team will call you back.
