Eryri VIP team transform two Llandecwyn benches
Following a request from local councillors representing Llandecwyn, members of the Eryri VIP team set to work restoring two popular community benches.
The two benches had originally been repurposed from the foot of Cilfor following a grant-funded village improvement project which saw new benches and flower beds installed.
Following a request from local councillors, members of the Eryri VIP team took the benches to their project site for refurbishment, where the wood was sanded, damaged sections were replaced and the benches repainted.
Volunteers from Hochtief UK (HUK), principal contractor for the Eryri VIP scheme, were pleased to support the local community by helping restore the Talsarnau Community Council-owned benches, ensuring they could once again be enjoyed as rest points by locals and visitors taking in the stunning views over the Dwyryd Estuary.
Before the benches were installed, the volunteers cleared dense vegetation and overgrowth from two viewpoints above Bryn Eithin Road, where benches had historically been situated. The restored benches were then positioned and secured, recreating two attractive resting places and improving access to the area.
Councillor Lisa Birks said: “We’re thankful to HUK‘s volunteers from the Eryri VIP project team who gave up their time to help Talsarnau Community Council by restoring this important resting spot to its former glory. We’re over the moon that the benches have been brought back to life and the community and visitors can once again enjoy a scenic place to stop and take in the views from Bryn Eithin.”
Ben Davies, HUK Public Liaison Officer for Eryri VIP, said: “This was another welcome opportunity for the team to get stuck in and support the local community. We're proud to be helping to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of Eryri National Park through our monthly volunteering programme and we were pleased to take up this additional work to restore the benches at Llandecwyn.”
