We have received a request from a new data centre in Willesden to provide a connection to our electricity network. As a regulated business, we have a legal obligation to connect companies to our network when a connection is requested.
We are looking at two options for providing this connection. This includes using an existing electricity cable tunnel in the area or laying new cables along the Grand Union Canal towpath.
To help inform our approach, we need to carry out a number of essential technical assessments and, we have appointed contractors, J. Murphy & Sons, to do this initial work.
Some of these surveys will take place along a section of the canal towpath at Willesden and will involve clearing some of the current, overgrown vegetation. This clearance work is currently scheduled to start in the first week of November, with survey works in December.
During this time, there will be a certain level of disruption which may include temporary closures of the towpath. Please be assured, where possible, we will seek to reduce disruption to those who live, work and travel along the canal and we will keep people up to date on our plans.
Since we are still early in the assessment process, any further work that may be required along the towpath is still unknown and dependent on the outcomes of other technical studies currently underway. When we have more detail on what may be required, we will update this website. Alternatively, you can sign up for updates here.
If you would like any further information or to speak to a member of the community relations team about the survey works, please use the contact details provided.
