We have received a request to provide a new connection for a data centre in the Park Royal area near to the Grand Union Canal. Under our license to operate, we have a legal obligation to connect companies to our network when a connection is requested.
We are considering providing this new connection between National Grid’s substations at Willesden and Kensal Green. This will require laying 5km of new cable along the Grand Union Canal towpath using the existing high voltage cable troughs.
Before we confirm our programme for the project, we need to carry out technical assessments along the towpath. This will be carried out by our contractor, J. Murphy & Sons, who will be clearing some overgrown vegetation along the route. Please be assured we will do all we can to minimise disruption.
The work is currently scheduled to take place between 20th March – 23rd April.
To minimise disruption, our contractors will put in place pontoons alongside the sections of the towpath where we need to clear the vegetation and carry out our checks. These will be accessible for cyclists and pedestrians, including wheelchair users and pushchairs.
If you would like any further information or to speak to a member of the community relations team about the works, please use the contact form on our website or via the contact details below.
