Bromham Community Hub receives the royal treatment
Members of National Grid’s North Wessex Downs VIP project team recently joined more than a hundred local residents and community leaders in Bromham for a very special occasion: the official reopening of the village’s Community Hub by Her Majesty Queen Camilla
Located just a few miles from the project site, the Hub’s reconstruction has been four years in the making, following a devastating fire in June 2021. Since then, the trustees have raised over £750,000 to rebuild the facility, with support from the National Lottery, the government’s Levelling Up Fund and National Grid’s Community Grant Programme.
Project Manager Amardeep Malhi and Project Supervisor Fiona Chikandwa were among those invited to the celebration, which began with a private ceremony with key supporters, donors and grant funders in attendance to witness the Queen unveil a plaque to officially open the Hub.
The festivities continued outside on the Millennium Field, where the whole village gathered to enjoy locally catered food and vibrant displays from community groups.
The Queen has a particular personal interest in the project, having donated a selection of plants to support the restoration of the facility, which includes a café, kitchen and two halls to be used by local community groups and organisations.
National Grid’s Community Grant Programme supports charities and community organisations in areas affected by its operations and site activities. Bromham Community Hub received £20,000 through this programme, which helped fund the installation of its new kitchen.
Speaking about the opening celebration, Amardeep Malhi said: “It was a great honour to meet and exchange words with Her Majesty Queen Camilla as part of the invitation to celebrate the reopening of the Community Hub with local people of Bromham.
“What the trustees have achieved over the past few years to rebuild this facility is truly impressive. We are always eager to support the local communities that are impacted by our work and it was fantastic to be able to provide funding towards the new kitchen in this wonderful facility through our Community Grant Programme.”
