Bringing together employers, training providers and community organisations from across Haringey, the event created a welcoming environment for people to learn more about pathways into work and build confidence in their next steps.
Delivered in partnership with the London Borough of Haringey’s employment team and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the initiative formed part of National Grid’s wider commitment to supporting local skills, education and employment opportunities through the North London Reinforcement project.
Working alongside organisations including Taylor Wimpey, Aston Group, Vistry and Wates, National Grid staff met with more than 142 students studying electrical installation, plumbing, carpentry, brickwork, engineering and construction management.
What is redeployment?
Redeployment means reusing equipment and materials that are still in good condition instead of throwing them away. For example, if a piece of office furniture or equipment is no longer needed by one department, the Investment Recovery team checks the condition. If it is still usable, they list it in an internal catalog. Other departments at National Grid can then request these items and use them again.
Why is redeployment important?
Community energy groups are well placed to deliver local, low-carbon electricity, but improved connection options would allow more benefits to stay within the community.
NGED has launched GECCO (Geoprint for Energy Club Connections and Operations), an innovation project testing a new connection methodology, which identifies the best places on the network to link local generation and demand together.
The project aimed to deliver our company's highest priorities- delivering safe, reliable energy to our customers, addressing community needs, preventing impacts on the natural environment, and building climate change resilience.
