National Grid supports local residents at Tottenham careers event

Local residents explored new employment opportunities as National Grid partnered with Capital City College Tottenham to deliver a two-day careers event.

Bringing together employers, training providers and community organisations from across Haringey, the event created a welcoming environment for people to learn more about pathways into work and build confidence in their next steps.

Delivered in partnership with the London Borough of Haringey’s employment team and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the initiative formed part of National Grid’s wider commitment to supporting local skills, education and employment opportunities through the North London Reinforcement project.

The programme combined practical support with direct access to employers. On the first day, attendees took part in CV writing and interview skills workshops designed to help them present themselves effectively in the job market. This was followed by a careers fair, where visitors had the opportunity to speak with employers about current vacancies, career pathways, and future opportunities across the construction, infrastructure, and energy sectors.

National Grid representatives were on hand throughout the event, offering insight into careers within the organisation and guidance on routes into industry. Attendees were also able to learn more about apprenticeships, live vacancies, and the skills needed for a long-term rewarding career within the sector.

The event saw strong engagement, with more than 75 people attending on each day. This provided valuable opportunities for local residents to connect directly with employers, ask questions, and gain a clearer understanding of the opportunities available to them.

Feedback from attendees underlined the importance of face-to-face conversations, with many saying the experience left them feeling more informed, more confident and better prepared to take their next career step.

The event reflects National Grid’s ongoing commitment to creating a positive legacy for communities along the North London Reinforcement project route. Alongside upgrading the electricity network across North London, National Grid is working with local schools, colleges, employment services and community organisations to help promote careers in STEM, support skills development and connect people with job opportunities.

By supporting initiatives such as careers events, National Grid is helping to ensure the investment in infrastructure also creates lasting benefits for local communities, both during construction and beyond.
