Sulphur hexafluoride (SF6)
Sulphur hexafluoride – known as SF6 - is a gas that’s commonly used in high-voltage electrical equipment around the world.
However, it’s also one of the most potent greenhouse gases and contributes to global warming in a similar way to carbon dioxide (CO2).
Today, wider understanding of the potency of SF6 gas – and the need to reach net zero carbon emissions in order to tackle climate change – has led to solutions being developed to replace it with greener alternatives.
