Volunteering

We aim to support our employees in completing 500,000 volunteering hours in our communities by 2030.

Our employee volunteering programs are designed to collaborate with our communities, inspire positive change, create local impact, strengthen communities and make a difference.

Employees are invited to spend up to three days each financial year volunteering with one or more of National Grid’s charity partnerships.

The majority of community volunteering is based around initiatives that:

  • Support low-income households with energy efficiency and fuel poverty measures such as home insulation or emergency warmth measures.
  • Support the development of work skills, especially in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) for low-income communities through school partnerships, classroom participation and work placements for skills and training that increase employability.
  • Create a positive impact on the environment and/or support our actions towards net zero, such as renewable energy or conservation projects.

New York Day of Service

On our Day of Service, over 2,000 of our employees participated in 38 volunteering events covering areas from park cleanups to food preparation for those in need.
