The Great Grid Partnership
In the Spring of 2024, our colleagues in Strategic Infrastructure (SI) signed contracts with seven partners to help deliver major onshore Accelerated Strategic Transmission Investment (ASTI) projects as a part of The Great Grid Upgrade in the UK. This will help the team move forward in its aspirations to deliver the UK Government’s Clean Power 2030 ambition and will increase capacity to accommodate a 50 GW energy connection for offshore power by 2030.
Known as the Great Grid Partnership, these contracts will initially focus on the work required by the end of the decade to deliver nine major infrastructure projects across England and Wales. It forms part of a £9bn supply chain framework which will also support infrastructure projects beyond 2030. The initial supply chain partnership covers design, consenting services and construction.
All of the partners have a proven track record of successful collaboration in delivering major infrastructure projects and enabling innovation to thrive. This work will help SI to achieve value for money for consumers, accelerate delivery and secure sustainable access to resources.
Carl Trowell, President of Strategic Infrastructure, said:
The scale and pace of the ASTI projects requires us to think and act differently and work with partners in a new way. By contracting with them now, we give confidence to our supply chain, share best practice across the industry, operate responsibly and sustainably, and get the best value for customers.
