As the UK deals with the impact of the coronavirus crisis, we have worked to ensure that our networks continue to provide a reliable supply of electricity and gas to keep hospitals, critical services and homes running. Powering the UK through a pandemic

As the world continues to get to grips with the impact of coronavirus, we’re working hard to make sure the lights stay on and the gas keeps flowing. Our UK Executive Director Nicola Shaw explains how.




As the owner and operator of the country’s national energy infrastructure, National Grid has a variety of roles to play to keep the energy flowing across Great Britain. Doing so during a global pandemic has presented our business with a fresh set of challenges.

During the lockdown, we have focused on our people, delivering energy for our customers and the nation, now and in the future, and our communities.

National Grid kicks off £1m coronavirus appeal to support NHS superheroes

National Grid’s Ventures business has donated £100,000 to help kick start the University Hospitals Birmingham Charity’s appeal to raise £1m to provide vital support for both patients and staff during the coronavirus crisis.




National Grid Ventures (NGV) has helped the University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB) Charity to launch a special appeal, to raise £1m to support patients and staff through the coronavirus pandemic.

The donation will be used to purchase almost 400 tablet computers that will be used by patients to help them speak to their loved ones while they’re in isolation. The tablets will be distributed to wards across the NHS Trust’s five hospitals, including the Nightingale Hospital, which has recently been established at the NEC.
