Hi, I’m Janeece and I’m a Business Analyst Apprentice at National Grid.

On A-Level results day, I had to choose between an IT apprenticeship here or a French Studies degree at Warwick University. I’m so glad I decided to start working immediately, especially for such an exciting and impactful company. Each day I’m learning new things as I progress. Power is so essential to our everyday lives and I get to be part of the energy workforce.

I’m working on how we can best decarbonize the heating sector for New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Our team is looking into potential solutions such as heat electrification, geothermal energy and low-carbon fuel alternatives.

We aren’t trying to find a one-size-fits-all answer but are looking at how we can help customers transition into the low-carbon solution that works best for them.

Following the completion of remedial works on an intermediate pressure metering installation at the hospital, it was flagged to NGM’s Integrity Engineer, Steve Knight that the hospital had a severe issue and ran the risk of losing their water, heating and hot water.

Even though this issue was not under the scope of NGM, Steve could not leave the hospital knowing they were in potential difficulty.

J Murphy and Sons are undertaking vital infrastructure works for National Grid in the west end of Nailsea. They are undergrounding 132kV electric cables from Nailsea to Portishead as part of the Hinkley Connection Project, which will connect six million UK homes and businesses to low-carbon energy.

Headteacher Dionne Elliot says: “The traffic cones around site have made such a difference – we’ve been able to clearly mark out one-way systems and areas to maintain our bubbles. Murphy’s generosity is much appreciated.”

COP26 is arguably the most important climate event since the 2015 Paris Agreement as governments around the world will be reporting back on progress and agreeing new actions to cut carbon emissions.

As one of the largest investor-owned energy companies in the world, National Grid plays a vital role at the heart of a clean, fair and affordable energy future.
