National Grid Volunteers Spread Holiday Cheer Building and Donating Bikes

BROOKLYN, NY – Continuing with the  Season of Giving, National Grid partnered  with Bike New York, to build and distribute 100 new bicycles and protective gear to local children at the annual Cooper Park Houses toy event.

The collaboration between the two organizations not only brought smiles to the faces of children, but also underscores National Grid’s Project C community commitment dedication to year-round community engagement and mission to shape a cleaner, more sustainable future for New York.

“National Grid is thrilled to partner with Bike NYC to provide  100 bikes for Cooper Park House’s Annual Gift Giving Event. Our commitment to year-round community engagement is exemplified by the enthusiastic support of our employee volunteers at events like this,” said Aubrey Kellman, Brooklyn Community Manager, National Grid. “Beyond bringing joy to children, the gift of bikes keeps on giving, fostering both community connection and sustainable practices.”

National Grid employee volunteers, embodying the company’s commitment to community service, played a pivotal role in making the event a success. Volunteers were on hand  December 9 to help assemble bikes before the children arrived.

“When you get a bike, it is a gift for that day and a present for your entire life, said Beverly Lacy, Chief Development Officer, Bike New York. “When you learn to ride a bike confidently, you have affordable transportation, you have recreation, and you have health and wellness for your entire lifetime. So, we love that these young people are coming in to get these bicycles today and we are incredibly grateful to National Grid for making this possible.”

Every child receiving a bike also received a helmet, lock and safety lights. A holiday greeting from National Grid was attached to each bike.
