National Grid Ventures Thanksgiving Food Drive Delivers Holiday Meals to Long Island Families in Need
National Grid Ventures (NGV) employee volunteers celebrated the start of the season of giving for Long Island families at the company’s Northport, E.F. Barrett and Port Jefferson power generation stations and other office locations. More than 100 employees collected turkey, stuffing and other holiday sides for four local food banks that include:
- Fill a Box, Feed a Family campaign of the Northport Rotary Club for Helping Hand Rescue Mission in Huntington Station
- Sacred Heart Food Pantry in Island Park
- Lighthouse Mission in Bellport
- Pronto of Long Island in Bay Shore
“No family should have to skip the Thanksgiving meal due to financial circumstances,” said Will Hazelip, President of National Grid Ventures, US Northeast. “As operators of local generation, we are in the business of serving our customers and making sure they have what they need. Community service is a part of that business and we look forward to serving our customers this holiday season.”
The U.S. Department of Agriculture released a report that estimates as many as 47.4 million people – including 13.8 million children – are living in food-insecure households in America. Food insecurity happens every single day, but can hit especially hard during the holidays.
In addition to food donations, many NGV employees are serving meals during the week at these food banks to ensure families have access to nutritious, fulfilling holiday meals. As part of our corporate social responsibility efforts, the company will continue to fight food insecurity by donating to area food banks throughout the year.
