CBS 6 Albany Reporter Tom Eschen recently toured Adirondack Beverage in Schenectady, NY where a recent expansion has added jobs and infrastructure to the area. National Grid serves 1.6 million electricity customers across upstate and although we are large company, we are a small business at heart with the goal of helping our local communities grow and prosper. This project represents a tremendous investment by Adirondack Beverage and our job is to make that investment work with the larger energy system to support the job growth.
There is a focus on electrification in New York State that will necessitate the need to expand National Grid’s electric system 2-3 times its current capacity. Projects like Adirondack Beverage are the end result of transmission investments we are making in the larger electric system to help communities grow.
With this focus on electric expansion and a growing need for electricity it is important for businesses and other projects across the state that need new or expanded electric service work with National Grid as early as possible.
Projects like this upgrade at Adirondack Beverage are a great example of how early communication can help a project move forward. Electric expansion involved more than simply installing new facilities, there are rights-of-way, capacity and engineering studies that can take time. Working together with businesses like Adirondack Beverage, we can come up with a design and plan to meet the needs of our customers and continue to facilitate electric needs of all of our 1.6 million electric customers across upstate NY.
