National Grid Employees Share Knowledge at Science Exploration Day

A few National Grid employees were among a group of business professionals who presented at University at Buffalo’s March 20 Science Exploration Day which, for more than 30 years, has provided area high school students a glimpse into local careers in science, technology, and healthcare.

Addressing the next generation of prospective scientists were National Grid Lead Project Managers Leslie Vishwanath (electric vehicles, clean fleets); Whitney Skeans (electric vehicles, New York); and Jon Nickerson (customer solutions). They addressed a range of topics including electric vehicles, the future of transportation, and steps that students can take to prepare for STEM careers. More than 400 students learned from them and other presenters, many of whom were from the university, area companies, research labs and government agencies. Other topics that were presented included Mars exploration, cryogenics and careers in forensics, to name a few.

According to the University, Science Exploration Day seeks to promote interest and thoughtful engagement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among Western New York high school students through a daylong program of workshops, lectures and tours.
