National Grid Earns Three EEI Emergency Response Awards

The company’s Massachusetts division earned an award in the Recovery category for our work to restore customers following: 

• A February 2026 Nor’easter that struck the East Coast, interrupting service to more than 96,000 customers statewide. 
• A March 2026 wind, rain and snow event that interrupted service to tens of thousands of customers in the Bay State.

National Grid’s Upstate New York division received a Recovery award for our response to events in 2026:

• A January 7 underground cable outage in Buffalo affected power to thousands of customers in Downtown Buffalo.
• Winter Storm Iona in March 2026, with multi-day impacts that resulted in more than 150,000 outages across Upstate New York.
• A June 18 windstorm that impacted service for tens of thousands of customers in Upstate New York and spun multiple tornadoes across the region.

National Grid also earned an Assistance award for our work to help Con Edison recover from a winter storm in late February and early March that affected much of New York City. It sent underground electric teams and specialized equipment to assist crews with critical repairs across the five boroughs.

Presented to EEI member companies twice a year, the Emergency Response Awards recognize recovery and assistance efforts of electric companies following service disruptions caused by extreme weather or other natural events. Winners were selected by a panel of judges through a nomination process. The awards were presented during EEI’s September Board of Directors and Chief Executives Meeting.
