The Planning Inspectorate has accepted National Grid’s development consent application for Sea Link, a major milestone in plans to strengthen Great Britain's electricity infrastructure.

Greenlink’s 504MW interconnector is transferring power between UK and Ireland following connections into the electricity transmission networks on both sides of the Irish Sea.

National Grid has reached a significant milestone in the development of the Sea Link project by selecting Siemens Energy as preferred bidder for the project’s two HVDC converter stations. Achieving the preferred bidder milestone represents the crucial step towards securing market capacity, as well as allowing National Grid and Siemens Energy to begin the planning needed for project delivery before full contract award.

Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2) is the UK’s single largest electricity transmission project, providing enough electricity to power two million homes. The project is accelerating its sustainability efforts by adopting Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) fuel for material handling trucks in Yorkshire.

National Grid has submitted its application for development consent to the Planning Inspectorate for Sea Link, a new electricity connection between Kent and Suffolk. This vital project will boost energy security and help deliver cleaner energy and strengthen Great Britain’s energy network.
