Moving clean energy over long distances from where it is produced to where it is most needed presents a huge challenge. We’re using our unique expertise in critical energy infrastructure to compete for large-scale electricity transmission projects in both the United States and the UK that will help to transform the energy system.
We part-own the New York Transco joint venture that’s leading multiple transmission projects in New York State that will strengthen security of supply and help bring more renewables onto the grid.
NY Transco has two major transmission network modernisation projects under way, which are expected to be in service by late 2023. Both will deliver much needed upgrades to the electricity transmission network and support New York State’s clean energy goals.
New York Energy Solution
This project, awarded by the NY system operator in 2019, is modernising transmission infrastructure along a 55-mile stretch of the network. It will cut congestion on the grid and enable greater volumes of clean energy to flow from upstate New York. At the same time, the project will make the transmission network more reliable and resilient.

Rock Tavern to Sugarloaf upgrade
This 12-mile transmission upgrade is strengthening the grid between the Rock Tavern and Sugarloaf substations. Existing lines will be replaced by a new line and structures that will increase capacity in Orange County, NY and support the flow of clean energy onto the grid.
