Community Engagement at the heart of National Grid’s Willesden and Kensal Green Connection project
Over the past few months, the Willesden and Kensal Green Connection project team has been engaging with the local community and stakeholders ahead of planned diversions along the Grand Union Canal.
As preparations for phase two of the project gather pace, the team has been out in the community, hosting a series of events designed to keep local residents informed. From pop-up events along the Grand Union Canal, to a drop-in event at Queens Park Court Community Hall and an online webinar, these events have created valuable opportunities for local residents, and commuters to learn more about the project and planned diversions, ask questions, and share feedback.
Pedestrians and cyclists showed interest during the pop-up events, with many stopping to speak with the team during their commutes. We received positive feedback from commuters on the engagement, with many noting the value of being kept informed. Members of the public asked a range of questions from the differences between phase one and phase two and how long the works were scheduled for.
A positive indication of the project’s reach came during the final pop-up event, where several passersby mentioned they were already familiar with the project and its impact, reflecting the benefits of early and consistent communication.
Natasha Turner, Project Manager at National Grid said: ''I’m really proud that we as a team have taken such a proactive approach in engaging with residents and commuters about the planned work. We know this next phase of work may be disruptive for the local community, so our teams have made a tremendous effort to chat with pedestrians and cyclists to explain the upcoming diversions. I’m pleased that we’ve received such positive feedback during these events.’’
National Grid remains committed to working closely with the communities along the project route and will continue to keep residents informed and engaged as the project progresses.
