National Grid is delivering a large supergrid transformer to Cellarhead substation in Staffordshire as part of essential upgrades at the site to ensure safe and reliable energy supplies in the region into the future.

  • New Power Flow Control equipment is being installed adjacent to the existing substation, helping to make our electricity network more efficient
  • This work demonstrates National Grid’s continued investment in its network across the North East, with the South Shields substation playing a key role in supplying electricity to homes and businesses in the area.
  • This work will boost the volume of clean energy that National Grid’s circuits can carry, therefore increasing the amount of renewable energy used across the country.

Grassroots organisation Brixton Wings, located between our Kings Avenue and Bengeworth Road sites, is one of several organisations benefitting from National Grid’s Community Grant Programme (CGP). The programme seeks to strengthen and uplift communities across South London who are impacted by the construction works needed to deliver the London Power Tunnels project.
