Starting this week (commencing 28 October), we’ll be taking delivery of the 5m diameter drums carrying around 1000m of electricity cable which we will install underground.
There will be up to three deliveries per day, with a total of 72 deliveries taking place over the coming months. Deliveries will be completed in January 2025.
Please note that to help minimise impact on local roads all of the deliveries will be happening during weekdays and during daylight hours.
A key part of these works, the undergrounding of a section of existing 400kV overhead electricity line, is now complete and energised.
National Grid will deliver two large supergrid transformers to a new East Sussex substation, which is under construction near Little Horsted, Uckfield, on Sunday 27 October 2024. The transformers will travel in convoy from Shoreham Port in Brighton to the substation, a journey of 24 miles.

The Community Grant Programme is aimed at community organisations and charities in areas where National Grid’s Electricity Transmission work is impacting on local people through its operations and site activities.
Since its inception in December 2015, the programme has awarded over £4.6 million to projects across the country.
