Gridline photo competition
This stunning close-up shot of a kingfisher at rest was enough to clinch grantor David Powell from Yoxall in Staffordshire £150 in shopping vouchers.
"I took the photo at a small pond in Staffordshire," he says. "I saw my first kingfisher on this very pond some four years previous. They are amazing, a flash of electric blue as they announce their arrival. The precision and speed they hunt their prey. Wow...
"Over the last four years, we have taken many images of the kingfishers. When I saw the email about this competition, I just sent off the image I had taken that day. It was super easy, and my first ever entry of any photo into a competition."

Caption competition
This cooling shot of ice cream right under the nose of a model cow is your starter for 10 for the next £50 caption competition. Simply come up with a humorous dialogue, witty one-liner or seaside postcard-style caption and the best entry will collect a high street shopping voucher of their choice.

The winner will be the first entrant selected at random who correctly identifies the answer and is a National Grid grantor at time of draw. The editor’s decision is final. No correspondence will be entered into. Gridline reserves the right to change the prize without prior notice, is not transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. By entering the competition you permit usage of the entry on Gridline Online. Your grantor number must be supplied with every entry. All images submitted for both competitions must be supplied in a landscape format and as high resolution as possible (the larger the file size, the better quality your image will be). The competitions are managed by our partner, Made By Sonder. Personal data will only be used for the purpose of administering the competitions and not shared with any third party.
