Landowners

Our land agents, Ardent, will contact landowners and occupiers to agree licences around temporary access for non-intrusive and intrusive surveys for both of the Projects.

They’ll issue Land Information Questionnaires (LIQ) which asks landowners to validate existing known information, alongside confirming all other parties with an interest in the land, that would otherwise not be available from public registers such as the Land Registry.

The information requested is required in connection with proposed applications for Compulsory Purchase Orders (‘CPOs’) for the Projects.

We require details of all parties that hold a legal interest in the Land as part of statutory obligations for the format and content of the application for CPOs and to ensure that all parties with an interest in the Land is updated as the Projects progress and when the proposed applications are submitted.

The Compulsory Purchase Orders (‘CPOs’) under Section 10 and Schedule 3 of The Electricity Act 1989 (the ‘Act’), will enable NGET to carry on the activities authorised by its transmission licence under the Act, and deliver the refurbishment of the overhead lines and secure the necessary permanent rights to undertake the works and future rights to maintain and operate them.

Government policy places significant importance on the need for a secure and reliable electricity network, and this includes a strong preference for permanent arrangements (such as easements) because of their greater reliability.

It’s National Grid’s preference to acquire all land rights by voluntary agreement. However, given the strategic importance of National Grid’s infrastructure to deliver a reliable, affordable network into the future, it has chosen to promote CPOs to secure all necessary permanent rights.

We’ll continue the process of voluntary attempts to secure easements for all of our assets and we’ll continue any ongoing communications with landowners.

Where the land we need for our proposals isn’t owned by National Grid, we’ll actively engage in discussions with landowners. If you think our proposals could affect your land, or you believe you’re likely to be affected and haven’t received a LIQ, please contact the Projects’ Land Referencing Team at Ardent.  You can call  0203 442 8509 or email [email protected]. Alternatively, you can write to Ardent, 3rd Floor, 37 King St, Manchester, M2 7AT.

Coordination with other projects

Alongside our proposals for the Brinsworth to Chesterfield and Chesterfield to High Marnham Projects (formerly Brinsworth to High Marnham), three other National Grid Electricity Transmission Projects are proposed in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas. These include Chesterfield to Willington, West Burton to Ratcliffe-on-Soar and North Humber to High Marnham. These would connect into the three proposed new substations.

We work closely with the Chesterfield to Willington, West Burton to Ratcliffe on Soar and North Humber to High Marnham teams to identify opportunities to ensure co-ordination and reduce disruption where possible.
