Braybrooke Network Rail Connection Project

We are building a new electricity substation near Braybrooke, on the outskirts of Market Harborough in Leicestershire.

Project description

The new substation is a vital part of electrical infrastructure which is required to support Network Rail’s electrification of the Midland Main Line, bringing faster and cleaner trains to the area.

The substation will provide an interface between the railway and National Grid, taking electricity from National Grid at 400kV to a transformer which will reduce the voltage to 25kV. Network Rail will then take the electricity and distribute it up and down the railway line via track side feeder stations to electric trains running between St Pancras and Market Harborough.

We started work on site in early 2021 and expect to complete and energise the substation by Winter 2022.

How will these works affect me?

This work will have no impact on power supplies in the area.

We aim to complete the works with minimal disruption to local communities and, in line with the planning application, construction traffic is taking access from Kettering Road, using a newly constructed haul road.

Our experienced contractors, Murphy, will be carrying out the work and our working hours will be 7am to 6pm.

If you have any questions or enquiries about the works, please don’t hesitate to contact us on 0800 279 3408 or email us at [email protected].

National Grid Community Grant Programme
