Network resilience

What does resilience mean to us?

We define resilience as the ability to adapt to change within the wider world to maintain the viability of the company and ensure consistent service on our networks.

Resilience involves the actions we can take before, during and after a disruptive event to adhere to our license conditions and enable the continuity of services to our customers.

As part of our preparedness activities, we undertake regular response training and exercises. These are valuable tools to enable us to improve our preparedness and response capabilities and they enable us to respond quickly and efficiently to unexpected events.

National Grid and TenneT Germany launch GriffinLink, a first of a kind project to maximise offshore wind

National Grid will partner with TenneT Germany to develop GriffinLink, a new multipurpose interconnector project. GriffinLink could make an important contribution to security of supply and market integration in Northwest Europe.

Protecting our assets from wildfires

A simulation exercise made sure our teams were prepared to respond to an active wildfire season, preventing adverse impacts to our networks.

Business continuity

We maintain a comprehensive business continuity program to ensure that, in the case of an emergency, we can recover critical business operations in a timely fashion and provide continuity of services for our customers.

Our business continuity plans are housed in a digital system of record that helps us to identify operational dependencies across IT systems, geographic landscapes and vendors to better understand the upstream and downstream risks to critical processes. These business continuity plans are regularly assessed and updated with an eye toward continuous improvement and increased resilience.
