A team of National Grid engineers will be going the distance on a 200-mile cycle ride across Wales at the end of September, to raise money in aid of the Trussell Trust and to support local community food banks.

The nine cyclists will embark on their journey, which they will complete over the course of three days, from Pentir substation in North Wales on 27th September. They will then make their way south to Ebbw Vale, finishing on the 29th of September at National Grid’s Rassau substation.

Grain LNG, which is part of National Grid Ventures, has used the positive feedback received from the recent market consultation exercise and, following Ofgem approval, is offering three lots of capacity.

Each lot will consist of 42 berthing slots, 200,000 m3 of storage and 125GWh/d (approx. 3 mtpa) of regasification capacity from as early as January 2029.

This product is specifically designed for parties who wish to acquire a substantial stake in a major terminal in Northwest Europe, at a reduced cost and with shorter contract lengths when compared to new-build projects.

SP Transmission (SPT) and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) have reached another significant milestone in the development of a new subsea electricity superhighway by selecting GE Vernova’s Grid Solutions business and MYTILINEOS as preferred suppliers for the project’s two required HVDC converter stations.

National Grid Ventures is inviting the local community to comment on new proposals for LionLink, a subsea cable link between Great Britain and the Netherlands. The supplementary non-statutory consultation will provide an opportunity for local people to comment on some refinements to the proposals, following community feedback.

Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2), a joint venture between SSEN Transmission and NGET, will be the longest high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable in the UK – providing enough capacity to power more than two million homes if granted regulatory approval by Ofgem – and is essential to meet the UK’s net zero commitments and deliver a cleaner, greener and more secure energy future.

Community organisations and charities across South London have been bolstered by a total of £220,205 in funding, committed through National Grid’s Community Grant Programme (CGP).

Since the beginning of last year, funds have been awarded to applicants located near sites operated by National Grid’s London Power Tunnels (LPT) project, a £1 billion scheme to rewire South London via deep underground tunnels. The 32.5km route runs through sites including Wimbledon, Kings Avenue, Bengeworth Road, Kidbrooke, Eltham, Hurst and Crayford.

As part of the public consultation, National Grid is holding two drop-in events where the team will share details of the proposals and offer local people a chance to provide feedback:

When: Thursday 14 September 2023, 1:30pm – 6:30pm
Where: Jubilee Pavilion, Ivers Parish Council, 45b High Street, Iver, SL0 9ND
