National Grid is partnering with a multi-agency coalition of state and local emergency response organizations to identify and prioritize areas for road clearance to facilitate power restoration and emergency response after a blizzard slammed western New York over the last three days.

National Grid crews have successfully restored power to 48,200, or 99 percent, of the nearly 48,700 customers impacted by the powerful blizzard that slammed portions of central and northern New York through today.

MELVILLE / BROOKLYN N.Y. – In response to extreme frigid temperatures driving increased gas demand, combined with equipment problems on interstate pipelines that challenged the ability of suppliers to deliver adequate amounts of gas throughout the Northeast, National Grid asked its natural gas customer in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and on Long Island to reduce natural gas usage on Christmas Eve.

MELVILLE / BROOKLYN, N.Y.–Due to unprecedented extreme frigid temperatures driving increased demand combined with interstate pipeline disruptions, National Grid is asking all of the company’s natural gas customers in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and on Long Island to reduce usage through tomorrow afternoon without sacrificing safety.

National Grid’s crews are facing extremely treacherous weather conditions as they work to safely clean up extensive debris, repair damage and restore power as the result of the ongoing, powerful blizzard that is expected to continue to pummel portions of western New York through Sunday.

National Grid crews have worked tirelessly over the past two days to restore power to more than 29,000 of the nearly 30,000 eastern New York customers impacted by damaging wind, rain and ice that caused significant and widespread damage across the region.

National Grid’s crews are facing extremely treacherous weather conditions as they work to safely clean up extensive debris, repair damage and restore power as the result of the ongoing, powerful blizzard that is expected to continue to pummel portions of northern New York through Sunday.

WALTHAM, MA – Roughly 36 hours after a powerful storm swept across Massachusetts with heavy rains and high winds that toppled trees, took down power lines and damaged poles, thousands of National Grid employees remain focused on clean-up and restoration.
