New overhead line between Sandford and Avonmouth

Featuring T-pylons

In May 2021, we started work to build the northern section of overhead electricity lines between Sandford and Seabank substations. We are using the world’s first T-pylons for part of the route.

Our contractor, Balfour Beatty, has almost completed building the temporary accesses and construction road used to reach our working areas. We build these to keep as much of our construction traffic away from local roads as we can. Visit our roadworks and traffic management page for locations and timings of roadworks.

Piling foundations

We started piling for building the foundations of the new pylons in September 2021. This involves driving concrete and steel piles into the ground.

We expect the piling at each site to take approximately one week and we publish a monthly schedule to show where we are carrying out this work. We expect to complete most of the piling across the northern section of the Hinkley Connection route later this year.
